1) What is a fire extinguisher valve?

Typically, this type of valve is a metal-seated valve that uses a graphite seat insert (in a ball or butterfly valve) and graphite stem packing. By using graphite as the seat insert and stem packing, the graphite will remain in place even after a fire.

The second method of achieving a fire-resistant design by using non-fire-resistant components is often referred to as fire tested valve. This valve uses a thermoplastic seat material and a thermoplastic stem packing, such as PTFE. in the seat design, even though the seat is thermoplastic, the design allows the thermoplastic to be machined into the body of the secondary seal to provide a seal when it melts due to high temperature exposure. In stem packing designs, the thermoplastic seal is typically supported by a graphite seal as a secondary packing.
